In today’s lesson on waste management, we explored the escalating issue of waste accumulation and various waste collection methods, while discussing the pros and cons of incineration. A key focus was the Great Pacific Garbage Patch, a massive marine debris area in the North Pacific Ocean, emphasizing the impact of non-biodegradable plastics and their breakdown into microplastics, which contaminate marine life and eventually re-enter the food chain. The lesson highlighted the environmental consequences of marine debris, including entanglement of wildlife in discarded fishing nets.
