In today’s lesson, we discussed the important values relevant to professional social care, focusing on a new criterion for K8 that highlights 19 key values such as empathy, kindness, commitment, and altruism. Altruism, defined as acting in the best interests of others without expecting anything in return, is crucial in health and social care, where understanding patients’ needs is essential. Studies suggest that altruistic individuals tend to be happier, healthier, and live longer because their actions foster social connections. We encouraged students to embody these qualities in their future careers.
