In this lesson, we explored various aspects of human development with a focus on the needs of the elderly, referred to as “senior citizens.” Students learned about the physical, social, intellectual, and emotional changes that occur with aging, such as loss of teeth, dementia, and social isolation, and identified gadgets and home modifications that support independent living for the elderly. The lesson highlighted the importance of meeting the elderly’s needs through community resources, including healthcare professionals, family, friends, and counselors.
