In today’s design and technology lesson, students learned about electrical conductivity, focusing on three types of materials: conductors, which allow electricity to pass through; insulators, which do not; and semiconductors, which can act as both depending on conditions. To identify whether a material is a conductor or an insulator, students can use a simple circuit composed of a battery, a filament bulb, and the material being tested. If the bulb lights up, the material is a conductor; if it does not, the material is an insulator. A video demonstration alongside the lesson will illustrate various materials tested for their conductivity using an electrical conductivity tester.
