Okay, but first of all let’s have a lookat the the the real meaning of the expression and that’s the way thecookies, the cookie crumbles because it’s got to do a little bit more thanjust cookies. Okay, so let’s have a look at the screen and that’s the way thecookie crumbles. Lesson one reading, a new sensation. Recording reproducing taste. Have you ever thought of that? Recording taste. How is that done?Think a little bit, we’re going to be reading about it. Okay, so a lovelypicture of a cookie. And that’s the way the cookie crumbles. But think a littlebit of the correct figurative, okay, not the literal meaning where that’s how acookie crumbles. into tiny pieces. This is an idiomatic expression which has got a figurative meaning. Okay I’mgoing to give you three options. So you have to accept things the way they are even if they’reunpleasant. That’s what happens if you do things the wrong way or leave things the way they are.And I gave you a few examples over there, okay? I gave you a couple of examples and these are correct uses of the idiom so I’ve put on weight must be the sweets and chocolatesI ate of the Easter period oh well that’s the way the cookie crumbles so that’sone example it’s a correct use of the expression and there is another exampleour oven at the summer house won’t work after not being used for so long weneed to replace it and that’s the way the cookie crumbles okay so freeze thescreen think a little bit judging from these two examples what is thecorrect meaning of this expression, and I’m going to show you the answer in three, two, one, andit’s accepting the things the way they are, okay, but that’s the way that we crumbles, that’s how things go, whether you like it or not, we have to accept things, even ifthey’re unpleasant.Okay, we’re going to come across this expression a number of times over the course of thelessons, okay, so, so many different kinds of dishes, so many fruits. If you could try any of these now, what would you pick? Are the pancakes there at the bottom? Are different spices? There’s an avocado on toast? I think that’sthe one that I would try. I’d imagine if you could actually try them instantly now, so they’re onthe screen, and you could try them there and then. Not going. buy them but actually being able to taste them by remaining where you are right now and being ableto taste the food that you see on the screen. Imagine if that were possible. What would you pick?Which one would you want to try first? Okay, think of all the flavours that you would experienceif you could try any or all of these. Now thinking of flavours, and different tastes. Can you mention the five different tastes? And that’sactivity one for you, so make sure that you have the resource one next toyou. But before you start it, you have to know what the fivetastes are. So for example, do you know which one, the first one for example sweet okay so that’s a taste think of the other four so let’s look atthe screen I’m going to show you the five different tastes so sweet obviouslysalty sour bitter and there is actually another one and that’s umami umami isanother taste so let’s find let’s find a few examples okay this is activity 1
