Dear students, I welcome you to another lesson. In this lesson we’re going to focus on different sewing techniques and the technique that is going to be explained throughout this lesson is creating decorative stitches. We’re going to identify the use of decorative stitches and also the different decorative stitches. include the chain stitch, the stem stitch, the blanket stitch, satin stitch, fly stitch and many others. So I’m going to now start by showing you some of my examples. So here I have a cushion cover that I’ve embellished with different decorative stitches. So as you can see we have different decorations over my cushion cover that will of course create a more original and original design to my cushion cover. So we have the lazy daisy, we have a running stitch with some designs, a fly stitch, French knots, we also have the running stitch with beads and different different stitches such as the chain stitch and others throughout this design. So I’m going to show you another example of my work. with decorative stitches so over here I now am going to show you a similar sample where I have fabric that is given color by the tie-and-dye technique and then it has different embellishments such as the fly stitch which was also also shown on the other sample, the chain stitch and stem stitch, beads, lazy daisy and and there embroider stitch. So we’re going to find out how to create these samples throughout this lesson. We’re going to start with the first stitch, that is called the chain stitch. So over here I have my example and we’re going to create another chain stitch in the row below. I’m going to ask you to do the same, so you’re going to watch this video another time and try out the second on your own. So what we need is embroidery thread and an embroidery needle. It is important to choose a needle that is suitable for the type of fabric that you’re going to use. So for example, if you’re going to use a cotton fabric like this one, you will need a needle with a point, okay, and a sharp point. However, if you’re going to use felt, for example, it is an embroidery
It is a seam, so a seam is adjoining between two pieces of fabric, it can be sewn and neatened in different ways. What types of seams can you think of? So we have some examples of open seam, closed seam, leapt or overlaid seam, run and fell and double-stitch seam. And how can seams be neatened? So the first example is of an open seam with the exact stitch and we’re going to find out how to create this seam and then also show the sample and then create this sample to be presented in your portfolio. So I have cut two pieces of fabrics so these are about 15 by 20 centimeters. now I will pin the fabrics together now we have to keep in mind the right side and the wrong side of fabric so when we’re going to create a seam like we have in this case okay this is the wrong side of the fabric so if this was and to create a skirt for example this would be the seam and of course these would be the right sides now we have take a look at this seam we’re going to create a line at the top with right sides facing so that if we’re going to create a seam and I’ll show you we’re going to create a seam by pinning
