What Should You Expect From This Lesson?

This pack contains a series of tasks, which include the four Language skills i.e. Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing, as well as a small dose of Literature, all centred around the theme of Adventure.

How To Carry Out This Lesson At Home:

1. This series of tasks is intended for Year 7 students and focuses on the theme of ADVENTURE.

2. Students start by covering the Listening and Speaking Tasks first to prepare them for the Reading and Writing Tasks.

The Listening task is based on a news broadcast about a teenage girl who is the youngest person to sail around the world on her own. This is followed by a short speaking task where students are encouraged to take on the role of a journalist and interview this young sailor.
The reading tasks are extracted from two popular adventure books by well-known authors: DANNY THE CHAMPION OF THE WORLD by Roald Dahl and THE HOBBIT by J.R.R. Tolkien. Students are asked to pay close attention to the language and figures of speech used in the reading texts in order to help them write their own adventure story.
The Writing task guides students to proceed from one paragraph to the other by offering examples of how to begin and end a paragraph. It also presents ideas on how to extend the story. There is no word limit and students may choose to spread out their writing over two or even three sessions.

3. There are countless adventure films which may help expose students to further ideas, vocabulary and language structures related to the topic.
