Lesson Duration:
45 mins.
What Should You Expect From This Lesson?
The students will reflect on how they have changed by time, from when they were born till today. Students will also reflect on how they will continue to develop in the future and how their wants and needs will change too. The SRE Year 4 workbook to be used. (kindly view resources section)
How To Carry Out This Lesson At Home:
The lesson will start by watching the video of the kitten growing into a cat.
Students will then try to guess what the lesson is about. (They might say pets, animals but are to be guided on what happened to the kitten, that it grew up) Students will then use their hard copies of Sexuality and Relationships Education workbooks or just download the Maltese or English versions available in the resource section of this lesson. Students will be asked to colour in the page with the words “Il-Mixja Tal-Ħajja” or “The Walk of Life”.
On the next page of the workbooks students will be asked to draw a picture of themselves as babies and another in box 2 of themselves as Year 4 students. They are to list things that have changed (such as long hair) and others that have remained the same (such as colour of eyes).
This is then followed with a walk in the future where students think about how they will be in 5 years time. They are to draw and then show the future image of themselves to those around them.
The students then watch the clip “Hush little baby…what does baby need?”.
In the song the students have watched the mother tells her baby that she will buy him a mocking bird, diamond ring, looking glass, billy goat, cart and bull, dog and horse and cart. Students have to reflect on if these things are the things the baby really needs and then make a list of what a baby really needs. (warm clothes, cot, milk, blankets, etc,).
The students will then look at the following page of the workbook and circle those items that they imagine a baby would need.
Finally, students will list 3 things they think they will need in their future and draw them in the three boxes provided too.
To conclude this first of four lessons dedicated to Sexuality and Relationships Education, students will be asked to think abut their life in 15 years time. Which occupations interest them? Students will then watch and after comment on the clip “What would you like to be when you grow up?”
