What Should You Expect From This Lesson?
The lesson will provide students with an overview of the history of Ancient Rome from its legendary foundation to the decline and fall of Rome to the Barbarians in the 5th century A.D. and some reference to particular features of Ancient Roman society.
How To Carry Out This Lesson At Home:
Teaching objectives of the lesson
Students will about the foundation of Rome in 753 B.C.. to the fall of Rome to the Barbarians in 476 A. D. They will be made aware of the key features of the civilisation of the Romans.
Resources for the lesson
• Video clip from Youtube on a timeline of Roman civilisation;
• Power point presentation in pdf format about the Roman Empire (Maltese
and English version);
• Marking scheme for the questions in the power point (Maltese and English version).
Step 1

Task
After having watched the video clip, list FIVE facts about the history of Rome placed in chronological order.
Step 2
Open the power point presentation in pdf format about the Roman Empire.
Step 3
Observe carefully each picture source and the written text on each slide. Choose the language version (Maltese or English) which suits you best.
Step 4
Once you went through all the slides in the power point, refer to the last two slides with the questions (Maltese or English version). Read the questions carefully before attempting to answer them.
Step 5

Task
While watching the video briefly explain FIVE facts about the life of a Roman soldier.
Step 6
Start answering the questions on a word document in this manner:
• Type in bold each question from the power point.
• Type in normal font the answer under each question.
• Enter a line space between each question.
• Use the clues in the questions (e.g. ‘Use slide 7 and 8 to help you answer’) to look for the answers
in the power point.
Step 7
To assess your work, download the pdf file with the marking scheme with the same name of the power point presentation. Here you can match your answers with the model answers in the marking scheme and rate your work from a total of 20 marks.
