The lesson is about the enfeoffment of the Maltese Islands by the King of Sicily to the Aragonese feudal lord Don Gonsalvo Monroy and what led the Maltese to revolt against Monroy's rule in 1425 and what were the consequences of that revolt on Malta and the Maltese.

Students will learn why the King of Sicily gave the Maltese Islands as a fief to Don Gonsalvo Monroy in 1421; what was the plight of the Maltese under Monroy’s rule as feudal lord; why the Maltese revolted against him and what were the immediate and long-term consequences of this revolt on Malta’s history.
