Lesson Duration:
45 mins.
What Should You Expect From This Lesson?
The lesson will introduce students to the 3rd and 4th Global Goals, these being "Good Health" and "Quality Education". Students will reflect on these two goals and learn how important they are for them, both in the present and also for the future.
How To Carry Out This Lesson At Home:
The students will first watch some online physical exercises they can also do at home. The link https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JoF_d5sgGgc is being suggested. Students can then discuss the benefits of being active. Next, the students are informed that they will be discussing “Good Health”, which is more than just physical exercise.

Students are then given a copy of the handout “Global Goals Year 3 Handout Part 2”. They are to look at the various pictures on the first page and state the message each picture is giving. The pictures include topics such as brushing teeth, getting enough sleep and doing exercise. Finally, the students are to write down 3 actions they feel are very important to remain healthy.
Next, the students mark on the handout the unhealthy food item in each group of food items. The discussion should focus on the importance of fruit and vegetables, on the importance of limiting sweets and junk food and also on being careful on what one drinks.
The first part of the lesson is concluded by the viewing of the clip “Johny Johny Yes Papa” and a reflection of what happened to Johny as a result of eating too many sweet items during the same night.

The 4th Global Goal, “Quality Education”, is then introduced. The pictures on the next page of the handout are used so students can mention what is necessary to have a good education. Students then reflect on what could very easily happen if they miss school and fill in the table using the pictures to help them (will not meet friends, will not play with friends, fail in exam, no good job when one grows up, no money)..
They are also to draw a picture of their school, after looking at drawings of other students shown on handout and finally reflect on the fact that not all children have the opportunity to attend school, as photos of children indicate. Students are to reflect on how these children feel and what their future will probably be like.
Finally, students can watch the link https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MxBfqd639BE
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MxBfqd639BE
This shows how much effort certain students in different parts of the world have to make to attend school daily (and so we should think twice before we grumble that we have to get out of bed to attend school.) Also, schools locally are so much better equipped and more beautiful than certain schools in other parts of the world, so concluding idea is that students should appreciate the opportunity they have to learn, in such welcoming buildings.
