What Should You Expect From This Lesson?
The objective of this lesson is for the children can participate in a discussion about rules and authority, and can explain why parents and teachers are the ones who make the rules and enforce them.
How To Carry Out This Lesson At Home:
Step 1: Explain to the children that classrooms and schools have rules that we must follow in order to be happy and safe.
Ask the child to list you some rules they have in class/school.
Step 2: Ask the child the following questions:
• Who makes the rules in the class/ at school?
• Who makes sure that these rules are obeyed?
• Who punishes those who break the rules?
• Why does this person/do these persons have this authority?
• What kinds of consequences are there for not following the rules?
Step 3: Now explain to the children that at home as well there are rules that we must follow in order to be happy and safe. Can they think of some rules that they have at home?
Step 4: Ask the child the same questions, this time focusing on Rules at Home:
• Who makes the rules at home?
• Who makes sure that these rules are obeyed?
• Who punishes those who break the rules?
• Why does this person/do these persons have this authority?
• What kinds of consequences are there for not following the rules?
It is important to introduce the idea of status between the members of the family. The idea of difference of status leads the way to teach them that not all relations in the family have authority.
