Discuss with your child what needs to be done when you plan for a pet, e.g. prepare a place for him to sleep, buy food, decide who is going to clean up after him, etc.
Step 2
Show the child the YouTube video or read the story if you have the book: https://youtu.be/D2YOROnz22A
Step 3
Ask the following questions:
• What did Harry have in his room?
• Do we usually keep horses in our rooms? Why not?
• How do you think a horse feels if he had to be cooped up in a room?
• If Harry provides food and water, a clean place to sleep and grooming and vet when needed, would he be taking good care of the horse? Why? Why not?
• How do you think the horse felt inside the room?
• Did Harry do the right thing when he set the horse free?
Step 4:
Ask the child to draw a picture of himself/herself taking care of a pet that he/she owns or would like to own.
