What Should You Expect From This Lesson?
Lesson Objective: To explore the different forms the claim to ownership, to something being ‘mine’ and/or ‘ours’ can take.
How To Carry Out This Lesson At Home:
Step 1: Think!
Watch the story ‘The Moose belongs to me’ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k1yI3crgNtg
How did Wilfred get to ‘own’ the moose? How did he decide that the Moose was his?
He named the moose Marcel. Why do you think he gave it a name?
Where did the moose live?
Do you think that it was Wilfred’s property? Why?
Was the moose anybody else’s property?
Is it enough for something to become your property just by saying that you own it? For example, you find a pencil in class, does it automatically become yours?
Step 2:
Think about these questions
1.How do you come to own things?
2. Is “Finders Keepers” a good rule?
3. What does it mean to own something?
4. What can you do with things you own?
5. What are the rights and responsibilities of ownership?
6. Can more than one person own something? If so, how can we decide how it is used?
7. If Wilfred never met the other people, would he still think that he owned the moose?
8. Why does Wilfred think he owns the moose? Does Wilfred ever actually own the moose?
Concluding activity
Now that you have a better idea of what ownership means, make a list of all the things you own. You will need it for the next lessons.
