What Should You Expect From This Lesson?

Lesson Objective: To strengthen still further the moral argument against bullying by representing it as the very contrary of our responsibility to care for the other, care for the others being presented as the positive form of respect.

How To Carry Out This Lesson At Home:

Step 1:
Have you ever been ignored? Pehaps you wanted to share something with those who care for you and they did not pay attention. Or you were with friends and no one wanted to hear what you had to say. How did you feel? What did you think about yourself at that moment? Can you write these feelings and thoughts down?
Step 2:
Have you ever ignored someone on purpose? Maybe you were walking down the street and someone called you and you did not wish to speak to him or her. Or else, those who take care of you called you to do a chore, and you ignored them. Perhaps at school you ignored the teacher’s request for cooperation, or during break you ignored a classmate who wanted to participate in a discussion, or game.
Think about what brought about this behaviour. How did you feel when you behaved in this manner? Can you give examples of other instances where you choose to ignore someone on purpose? What are the reasons behind these actions? Why do you choose not to care? What does it do to the person’s self-esteem? Why is it wrong to bully someone, especially in this way?

Concluding activity
