What Should You Expect From This Lesson?

Lesson Objective: To get children to appreciate the importance of not being alone and to introduce the notion of having relationships with others.

How To Carry Out This Lesson At Home:

Step 1: Think!
What kind of toys do you have?
How do you play with them?
Do you play with them when you are on your own?
Do you play with them when you are with friends?

Step 2:

Watch the short video clip of the girl playing in the kitchen: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b_jkGupaKpM

Observe what toys she has, and their position.
• What do you think the child is playing at?
• Why are there dolls sitting at the table?
• What is the girl doing?
• Why is she talking to the toys?
• Do you speak with your toys?
• Why do you do that?
• Do toys answer you back?
• So why do we still speak with them?

Concluding activity
When we play and speak to our toys we are trying to communicate with them, treating them like they are people. What is the difference between communicating with objects and with persons?
