What Should You Expect From This Lesson?
Lesson Objectives: • To present love as the extra-ordinary dimension of the care for others, taking us beyond the latter in the sense of care and the exploration of the relationship of love with sexual pleasure; • To help the students to understand the difference between the moral and the legal and to appreciate how they are brought together in different societies.
How To Carry Out This Lesson At Home:
Step 1:
Laws regarding sexual relations speak of consent. What does this mean?
Moreover, a minor (under 16 years of age in Malta) is considered unable to give consent even if s/he agrees to the sexual act. Why do you think this is so?
Step 2:
When you give consent can you change your mind?
If you are drunk and say yes, does it mean you have consented to sexual activity?
If you do not say NO, does it mean you are giving consent?
Step 3:
Research task: Choose two different societies (e.g. Amish, Mormon, which are faith based and others which are more secular), possibly in different continents. What is the norm where sexual behaviours are concerned?
What are the consequences (on you and your partner) of being forced into sexual activity without giving consent?
How is consent linked to self-care and care for others?
Concluding activity
