What Should You Expect From This Lesson?

Lesson Objective: To reinforce the distinction explored in previous modules between how we treat objects and animate beings – what one’s obligations towards either should be.

How To Carry Out This Lesson At Home:

Step 1: Think!
Do you remember what animate and inanimate objects are?
Can you give some examples?

Step 2:
What is the difference between animate and inanimate objects? Can your write down these differences?

Step 3:
We use β€˜our’ to show that something belongs to us. We say β€˜our toys’, β€˜our friends’, β€˜our pets’. However, of we do not like a toy, we can throw it away, but we cannot throw away β€˜our pet’. Why is that?

Look at these examples.
If you throw away a doll because it is ugly and you don’t like it:
β€’ Would the doll feel sad?
β€’ Can the doll be hurt physically?
β€’ Will the doll miss you?
β€’ Why not?

The garbage collector comes to take your garbage bag and you rip it up just for fun.
β€’ How do you think the garbage collector feels?
β€’ The garbage collector was not hurt physically by your action. Does this make it ok?
β€’ Why is such action wrong?

Concluding activity
We meet different people in our neighourhood. How should our behaviour towards them be? Why?
