What Should You Expect From This Lesson?

Students will reflect on the scholastic year that has come to an end, with its positive and negative memories. Emphasise is placed on safety at home and at the beach and a reflection on how to spend one's free time wisely.

How To Carry Out This Lesson At Home:

The students listen to the song “School’s Out. A song for the end of the school year”. Whilst doing so they fill in the handout “Think about this scholastic year that has come to an end” by writing down in the happy and sad face all that comes to mind.

Students then view the powerpoint “How can I spend my summer holidays” which gives a large number of ideas of positive things one can do to spend the summer. The list on the powerpoint is not endless and students are to try and suggest other ideas. These could include visiting grandprents, helping at home, washing the car or plates, watching television, cleaning one’s room and going to Gozo, amongst others.

Students then make a list of things they intend to do during the summer holidays.

The students are then given the first page of the handout “The summer holidays are approaching”. The first two pages include information on staying safe in the water and an exercise on water safety.

The third and fourth page of the handout are two word searches, one regarding sun safety and the other home safety. These can be done during the lesson or at a later stage, when student has some free time. What is important is that the word searches key words are used to bring about a discussion of the importance of keeping safe in various locations.

Finally, as a general revision, students view the 4 examples of things to do on the fifth page of the handout and they have to add three more ideas in the boxes provided.

The lesson is concluded with the clip where the students watch some teachers celebrating the end of the scholastic year, which should help them realise that everyone deserves and enjoys a break after months of hard work!. The clip is called “teachers celebrating last day of school”.
