How To Carry Out This Lesson At Home:
Resources:
• Flashcards (one set for each group)
• 3 Hoops per group + pictures
• Worksheet
ENGAGE
Introduction:
Students will be working in groups. Each group will be given a set of cards with different animals. The students will be asked to sort them in groups, creating their own categories.
The teacher asks whether some animals could be put in more than one category.
INQUIRE
PPT:
On the IWB the teacher shows two circles (one labelled ‘land’ and the other one labelled ‘sea’) with pictures of different animals underneath, example: fish, duck, and horse.
Students will place the horse in the first circle and the fish in the second circle. Ask students: Where are we going to place the duck? Elicit that we can overlap the circles to create another category for the duck.
Game:
Students will be split in groups and sort their animal cards into three overlapped hoops. This activity can be linked with Physical Education.
ASSESS and EVALUATE
Worksheet:
Students will make their own list of animals that live on land, water and air.
Follow up:
Each group looks up information about a particular category of animals and they can also create a show and tell to share what they have found out with their peers.
