What Should You Expect From This Lesson?
This lesson invites the learner to consider the qualities of a visual output including: resolution, colour depth and refresh rate.
How To Carry Out This Lesson At Home:
Step 1: What makes a good visual output?
– Watch the video in the attached link to see How Computer Game graphics improved over the years. Now try to list ways how visual output improved over the years.
Step 2: Resolution, Colour Depth and Refresh Rate
– Watch these videos about resolution and bit/colour depth to get a better understanding of these two qualities that determine how clear and colourful an image is.
Step 3: What have I learnt so far?
– Try this online exercise about the quality of a visual output
Step 4: A close look at Vector & Raster Graphics
Images can be of two types: vector and raster. These types of images have different characteristics and so different uses.
– Watch these videos to get a better understanding of vector and raster graphics and image file formats.
– Try this online exercise about raster and vector output.
Step 5: Lesson Summary
– Let’s recap all we’ve learnt so far by trying out Activity 7: ‘Factors effecting the quality of a visual output’. (Refer to ‘Activity Sheet L4 & 5.pdf’ in the resource section)
– Check your answers to Activity 7 using the Answer Sheet available in the resource section.
