Introduction:
Look at the ‘Introduction Picture’ and discuss/think about the questions:
• Do you think they are working safely? What is wrong?
• Have you ever experienced or heard of an accident while using sewing tools?
Step 1:
On a rough paper, make a list of hazards when using sewing tools and equipment and think about how each hazard could be avoided.
Step 2:
Watch the following video (Credits: Youtube) about safety while using sewing equipment.
Can you think of other safety precautions we need to keep in mind while using sewing tools?
Step 3:
Open the handout named Health and Safety and complete task 1: Identify the hazards in the pictures and suggest ways of avoiding them.
Step 4:
Open the PDF named Legislation and familiarise yourself with the health and safety legislation.
Open the handout named Health and Safety and follow the instructions to complete Task 2 (Matching Activity).
Conclusion:
Make a poster for a fashion studio/sewing room with safety rules to keep in mind when using sewing equipment. Use pictures and colours to make your poster more attractive.
