What Should You Expect From This Lesson?
By the end of this lesson children can: Recognise that things can move from one place to another if we push or pull them. Decide which type of force is being used: a push or a pull. Predict and relate to everyday life by giving examples (ex: pulling a drawer, pushing a pram, etc.)

Engage
Display some toys and ask students to move them from one place to another.
These toys can include: A pram/pushchair, a car or train with a string attached, a ball…
Elicit how they are using both pushing and pulling forces to move these toys.
Inquire
Define the pushing force as moving objects away from us and the pulling force as moving objects towards us.
Show the PPT – Forces for more examples of push and pull forces. Emphasise that some objects can be moved by pulling and pushing forces.
For example, I can push a chair away from me or pull it towards me. To open and close a door, I use both pushing and pulling forces.
