What Should You Expect From This Lesson?

How To Carry Out This Lesson At Home:

1. Introduction: Discuss different pictures of shirts with a variety of sleeves.

2. Look at the picture attached. What is the difference between a dropped sleeve and a set-in sleeve?

3. Watch the video below about the construction of a dropped sleeve

4. Download pattern (included with resources). Cut out.

5. Pin the pattern pieces to the fabric. Leave 1.5 cm seam allowance and cut out all pattern pieces once.
Transfer any pattern markings.

6. Follow the information handout and the video in step 3 to construct the sample of the dropped sleeve.

7. To start: Pin, tack and machine the dart on the front.

8. Pin the back and front pieces right sides together. Pin, tack and machine stitch the shoulder seam.
Press the seam open and neaten the raw edges.

9. Position the sleeve to the armhole.
Pin the centre of the sleeve to the shoulder seam (can be found, by folding the sleeve pattern in half).
Pin the sleeve all around the armhole RS to RS.
Tack, and machine stitch on the seam allowance.
Press the seams seam and neaten the raw edge.

10. Fold the sleeve in half, and pin all along the underarm seam to the side seam.
Tack and machine stitch as one continuous seam.
Press the seam open and neaten the raw edge.

11. Concluding activity: Carry out the dropped sleeve hw as a revision.
