What Should You Expect From This Lesson?
In this activity you will be able to use an application that uses Coloured Note tiles that if positioned accordingly you can create a song. You can also add some bass drum and snare to the track and change the tempo. In the settings button you can also adjust the octave range, note to start on, scale, number of beats per bar and also the length. The restart button on top right corner clears everything and starts you fresh.
How To Carry Out This Lesson At Home:
Creating your songs:
When using this online application you can create your own melodies, and once done you click on save and this will generate a link which you can also share with your friends.
For those students who know how to read conventional notation, you can write a melody based on any notes and any scale of your choice.
To make a song, create a song by clicking notes into the grid. The top section of the grid can be used for high notes, and the lower section of the grid for low notes. There are two rows of dots at the bottom for creating a rhythmic pattern.
Good to know:
– Change the playback sound and tempo with the options at the bottom of the screen
– Click on Settings to change the scale, length of the song, range of notes, time signature and more
– You can use the mic to record notes into Songmaker
– You can save or share a link to your song
– Set up templates or partially completed songs ahead of your lesson to save time during class
A few activity ideas:
Recreate a song you have learnt in class
Compose a melody using the pentatonic scale (you can change the scale in the Settings area)
Compose a bassline ostinato using the lower section of notes and then play it on an instrument or you can even sing it
Demonstrate visually melodies that move by step or leaps
Compose simple rhythmic patterns in two parts
Create a pattern that has high and low pitches
Explore different metres and beat subdivisions (you can adjust these in Settings)
